Chronic diseases like cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and conventional methods of diagnosis fail to address the issue for many reasons. With the discovery of miRNA – a strong cancer biomarker circulating in the blood stream, early cancer detection seems to be a possibility now. At Ichiki Lab, I do research on  the design and development of a microelectrofluidic device - a fully electronic, highly efficient, lab-on-chip type device for miRNA detection. The device developed with the help of high-tech research facilities enable us to detect specific cancer markers of pM level concentration rapidly. My current research objective is: 1. Improving the prototype for microarray like detection of different miRNAs. 2. Detection of cancer markers accurately in a very low concentration (physiological level) 3. Improving time to detection with the help of automation 4. Identifying novel sensing materials (ex. Ga2O3)
