【Visitors in October】CEA France, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, participants of National Association of science and mathematics research meeting and students of Philippines visited iCONM.
Tuesday, October 1, seven visitors including the chairman of CEA France and the director of International relations visited iCONM through effort of French Embassy Tokyo. Dr. Hiromichi Kimura, COINS Project Leader introduced the medical innovation in Japan and Mr. Iwasaki, iCONM Vice-Director explained the summary of iCONM. Moreover, Dr. Quader, senior research scientist, outlined the research conducted in iCONM and showed the lab. and the facilities in the building. Although time was limited, a question and answer session were actively held during the lab. tour and the visitors could deepen the understanding of the center.
Tuesday, October 1, Ms. Margaret Fong, Executive Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council visited iCONM. Kawasaki City and Hong Kong Trade Development Council exchanged MOE in 2008 and since then there have been active interaction. This time, after a courtesy visit to the mayor of Kawasaki City, she visited King SkyFront. Mr. Miura, Director of Kawasaki Institute of Industrial Promotion explained the background and significance of the establishment of the center and Dr. Kimura, Project Leader introduced the role of COINS. Dr. Liu, iCONM researcher conducted lab. tour in Chinese and there was a lively exchange of opinions about the center's challenge and future collaboration.
Friday, October 4, the 47th National Association of Science and Mathematics meeting was held in Kawasaki and after the meeting, 46 teachers from 18 prefectures nationwide visited iconm. This visit was done for the purpose of creating lessons that cultivate an attitude of actively trying to solve problems and create new value through visits to the Open Innovation Center including iCONM. Mr. Iwasaki, Vice-Director, with his high-school episodes, outlined the research contents conducted in iCONM and took them around the building to show laboratories. We hope that this tour will help teachers to create lessons to foster young researchers who will continue their research.
Thursday, October 31, 29 students and 3 teachers from Sacred Heart High School, Cebu, Philippines visited iCONM. Every year, the Sacred Heart High School makes visit to cutting-edge scientific research and educational facilities in Japan to conduct training aimed at stimulating students' curiosity and looking and touching them with their own eyes. It was the first time for them to visit iCONM. Deputy Director Iwasaki explained the outline of iCONM first, and Dr. Sabina Quader, Senior Research Scientist introduced the research contents. In addition, a scientist from Philippines, Dr. West Paraiso introduced his reasons to be a scientist and the episodes leading up to his research at the Center. The students listened enthusiastically and asked many questions. At the end, an iCONM scientist conducted a lab tour and explained the facilities. It was impressive that each student was very interested, took notes throughout, and asked questions. We hope that this visit will help students to develop their careers.
