Dr. Takuya Miyazaki (iCONM’s researcher) et al. decorated the cover of an academic journal.

A paper entitled “mRNA Delivery: Polymeric Nanocarriers with Controlled Chain Flexibility Boost mRNA Delivery In Vivo through Enhanced Structural Fastening” by Dr. Takuya Miyazaki, a Visiting Scientist of iCONM (Kataoka / Kinoh Lab), and Prof. Horacio Cabral, Associate Professor of University of Tokyo was published in the issue on August 19 of Advanced Healthcare Materials.

This paper is about the design of Smart Nanomachine®, which protects mRNA from the enzymatic degradation to stabilize it in the body. The cover page was designed by Dr. Miyazaki and Prof. Cabral. Actually, the Smart Nanomachine® was developed by Prof. Kazunori Kataoka, Director General of iCONM, based on a science fiction movie "Fantastic Voyage" released in 1966. This motif was also utilized in the cover picture. About the design, Dr. Miyazaki stated as follows:

“I wanted to present the concept of “in-body hospital” by using Issun-Boshi, who is a popular tiny samurai of a Japanese fairy tale, as a crew of Fantastic Voyage. In the future, I would like to publish additional papers about mRNA-based therapies and design the cover image showing the fight of Issun-Boshi to beat devils as diseases”
