Agreed to continue and expand Spain-Japan joint project “CONCORD”

As an ongoing collaboration between Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (Spain) and iCONM, a virtual Bilateral Meeting was successfully held on 3rd of February, 2021. This collaboration project named CONCORD was initially jointly funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED). Later, “JSPS Bilateral Joint Research Project/Seminar funding” also aided to strengthen this collaboration. Universitat de Barcelona (Spain) and the National Institute of Health Sciences (Japan) are also partners in this collaboration. In total, 20 participants from these four different research institutes and two different countries: iCONM (JP), NIHS (JP), UIC (ES), UB (ES) participated in the virtual bilateral meeting.

Dr Sabina Quader, a Senior Research Scientist of iCONM & Dr Rosalia Rodriguez, an Associate Professor of UIC, organized and presided this program. The event started with each participant giving an introduction and explaining a bit about their research fields. Dr. Quader/Dr. Rodriguez then provided an extensive introduction to both institutes, iCONM and UIC-Barcelona, as well as the AMED/AEI-funded CONCORD project on nanomedicine for glioblastoma & obesity. After which, Mr. Jesus Garcia, a PhD scholar of UIC & Dr West Paraiso, a Research Scientist of iCONM shared the latest results related to CONCORD research project. The participants then engaged in a Q&A session and contributed to the discussion. Finally, Dr Quader/Dr. Rodriguez shared their future perspectives on the project while Professor Kazunori Kataoka, Director General of iCONM, gave his closing remarks and invited everyone to do further meetings and collaborations. The participants are considering to conduct this kind of virtual meeting among these four institutes more frequently to strengthen and expand this international collaboration.
