Senzoku Gakuen High School students interact with iCONM researchers

On August 8th, six first-year students selected from Senzoku Gakuen High School (in Takatsu Ward, Kawasaki City) visited iCONM to experience the work of researchers.

First, they learned from Makoto Shimazaki (Communications Manager) about what "nano-medicine" is, the research being conducted at iCONM, and how the care environment will change in the future due to the declining birthrate and aging population.

Next, they listened to the talk by Yukihiro Kanda (iCONM researcher) about pursuing a career as a researcher. His discussion about why he became an engineering researcher and what is expected of researchers was very informative for the students, who are considering future careers in research.

In the afternoon, they experienced experiments alongside Sabina Quader (Deputy Principal Research Scientist) and other researchers from iCONM. Everyone engaged seriously in the experiments, learning how challenging and enjoyable the work of researchers can be. Through this experiential learning, they developed an interest in the research at iCONM, and we look forward to the possibility of collaborating with them in the near future.
