The 21st Cross Cultural Event Held
On November 25, we held the 21st Cross Cultural Event, aimed at effectively utilizing the diversity within the iCONM organization, which has a foreign researcher ratio of 38%. The speaker was Dr. Haochen Guo from the Nishiyama Lab, who introduced his hometown, Ürümqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China.
He described the region’s deserts, including the Flaming Mountains featured in the classic tale 'Journey to the West,' and the rugged Tianshan Mountain range. Historically, Ürümqi has been known as a challenging waypoint along the Silk Road, serving as a cultural exchange hub between the East and West.
Dr. Guo showcased beautiful handicrafts, including exquisite carpets and the artistic, specialized knives that men in Ürümqi often carry. He also highlighted the area’s favorable climate for growing a wide variety of delicious and affordable fruits and vegetables. Following the presentation, several researchers expressed their desire to hold an academic conference in Ürümqi, further enhancing the city’s reputation as a captivating destination.
