The 27th Cross Cultural Event was held.
On May 26, we held a Cross Cultural Event aimed at iCONM staff, facility users, and officials from KIIP. This time, Ms. Caroline Tamami Holick, an internship from the University of Jena in Germany, introduced her hometown “Freiburg”.
Located in the southwest of Germany, Freiburg is one of the popular cities for German tourism in Japan. The "Black Forest," a coniferous forest stretching 160 kilometers north to south, paints a beautiful landscape, and the local specialty, cherry cake, surely captivated the audience, making them want to try it just from her description. Freiburg is also famous for its delicious wines, and among thousand kinds of German beers, the beers from Freiburg are known for their strong hop flavor, making them a popular choice among beer enthusiasts. The sausages served are quite long and have unique variations that are traditionally passed down in different regions of Germany. Of course, she also explained about schnapps, enjoyed after meals, and we learned about the culture of savoring its aroma.
Additionally, the "Black Forest" area is famous for its carnival where people dress up as devils, and there are masks that have been passed down through generations in families. Holick-san (Tama-chan), as her middle name suggests, has connections to a Japanese family and is fluent in Japanese. She expressed her desire to become a bridge between Japan and Germany in the future.
