The 29th Cross Cultural Event was held.

On September 8th, a Cross-Cultural Event was held for iCONM staff, facility users, and representatives from Kawasaki City and the Kawasaki Institute of Industrial Promotion. This time, Mr. Ryosuke Hirota from the General Affairs and Accounting Section of iCONM’s Administrative Department introduced his hometown, Kawasaki, in easy-to-understand English for the many international researchers who participated.

He explained the characteristics and recommended spots of each of the seven wards that make up Kawasaki City, incorporating a quiz format to engage the audience. Among the highlights were spots in Tama Ward, such as the FUJIKO・F・FUJIO Museum and the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki which drew particular interest from attendees. The presentation also included information about local train stations. Kawasaki has four stations that begin with “Musashi”: Kosugi, Nakahara, Shinjo, and Mizonokuchi. The reason for this naming is to distinguish them from other stations with similar names that already exist on the JR network. “Musashi” was chosen because the area used to be part of an old administrative region called “Musashi no Kuni.” Some viewers noted that even though they live in Kawasaki, they were unaware of this, making the session especially meaningful.

The presentation concluded with a spotlight on Takatsu Ward and Nakahara Ward, featuring recommendations for ramen shops and shopping streets. Some audience members expressed agreement with the recommendations, while others said they became interested and wanted to visit the places mentioned.

In its 29th session, the event finally introduced Kawasaki, the home of iCONM. Through art, history, and food culture, the event became an opportunity to promote deeper cross-cultural exchange.
