The First Practical Training Program for Fifth-Year Pharmacy Students Interning at Pharmacies in Kawasaki (FY2026), Conducted at iCONM
On March 26, 38 fifth-year pharmacy students—currently undertaking practical training at community dispensing pharmacies in Kawasaki City—visited iCONM and attended a lecture session at LiSE.
This program is held three times a year as it provides credits required to sit for the national pharmacist examination, with a total of 120–150 future pharmacists participating annually. This session marked the first training of the 2026 academic year.
In addition to an introduction to iCONM and the CHANGE initiative, Ms. Michiko Yagi, Executive Director of the Kawasaki Nursing Association, gave a presentation highlighting the role of nurses and the importance of collaboration between nurses and pharmacists.
Furthermore, Dr. Shimazaki, a Communications Manager with a background in the pharmaceutical industry, delivered a lecture on Japan’s pharmaceutical sector, including how pharmaceutical companies are organized and the process of drug discovery. His talk provided students with valuable insight into how the pharmaceutical business operates.
Following the lectures, the students toured iCONM’s facilities and took part in a networking session with instructors and researchers. During this session, they engaged in discussions and Q&A from various perspectives on career development as future pharmacists.
The second session is scheduled for June, and the third session will take place in September.
