【Press Conference】Dr. Takahiro Nomoto, Assistance Professor and Dr. Nobuhiro Nishiyama, Professor, Laboratory for Chemistry and Life Science, Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology (iCONM Principal Research Scientist) and their research group succeeded in nearly eliminating mouse tumors by adding poly(vinyl alcohol), the main component of liquid glue, to a p-boronophenylalanine (BPA) and using it for Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) in collaborative research with iCONM, Kyoto University and STELLA PHARMA. The results were published in the US science journal "Science Advances".

【Articles Published】On November 21, Yomiuri Shimbun covered the matters that we presented at the press conference held on October 25. The article entitled as "A New Carrier for Gene Therapy – Development of An Artificial Vector Capable of Also Encapsulating Larger-Sized Genes" focused on the development of a synthetic vector that can carry larger size of DNA in comparison to conventional viral vectors, and on its ability to express the DNA in tumor cells of pancreatic cancer-bearing mice. Also Prof. Shinsaku Nakagawa (Osaka Univ), an authority on gene therapy, commented in this article that synthetic vectors do not produce any antibodies as a merit to say "Very Meaningful Results!".

【Press release】"Nanomachines that carry nucleic acid medicine for fundamental treatment of hereditary intractable disease. Launched crowdfunding for R&D and disease enlightenment."
・Start research and development of nucleic acid medicines that lead to fundamental treatment of designated intractable disease "cystic fibrosis".
・Start recruitment of crowdfunding in partnership with Academia Mist.
・The recruitment period is between June 28-August 26. The target amount is ¥ 400,000.
・Expect to connect not only to raising research funding but also to social enlightenment of “cystic fibrosis”.

Cystic fibrosis is a rare disease that occurs at a rate of 1 in 600,000 people in Japan, and highly viscous secretions are excessively secreted in major organs throughout the body, such as the lungs and the pancreas. It is a disease that causes various pains such as dyspnea and digestive disorders.
Currently, there is no drug effective for the fundamental treatment, and it is classified as a designated intractable disease by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

【Press Release】We held a press conference by Kazunori KATAOKA(Director General, iCONM / Professor, The of Tokyo)and Kanjiro MIYATA, COINS Theme 1 leader(Associate Professor, The University of Tokyo / Visiting Scientist, iCONM). They succeeded in developing the Nucleic Acid Medicine-loaded Nanomachine, a technology that can stably protect nucleic acid drugs that are prone to deactivation in the bloodstream and deliver them to intractable cancers such as pancreatic cancer and brain tumors.
